Art

art1Our children here are encouraged to be creative and to enjoy the process of making for its own sake. Every pupil is taught to develop his or her own skills to a level of competence which will allow self-expression and confidence working in a variety of different and exciting media.

In the six years between the age of seven and thirteen, we offer the broadest possible syllabus which will give all pupils a foundation from which to make choices and specialise in the run up to G.C.S.E. The practical art and craft sessions are planned not merely to expand individual’s skills, but to encourage imagination and experimentation within a framework of knowledge about other artists, past, present and from different cultures.

0945-art-roomWe invite, regularly, local artists to join us; work with the children on a project over a whole day; make use of the surrounding park and dramatic architecture. In the course of a year trips out are made to galleries and places of interest. Flexibility in the schemes of work and timetabling allow us to pursue topics related to current events, ideas initiated by the children, seasonal activities, and links to other subjects on the curriculum or allied to “forest schools” – some of the best artwork is the immediate response to something unexpected!
