Haileybury Creative Writing Winners

We are delighted to announce that Year 5 pupil, Abigail Foster, has been awarded a First Place Certificate of Merit in the Haileybury Creative Writing Competition.

Year 5 pupil, Harry Williamson, was also awarded a Second Place Runners-Up Certificate for his creative writing entry.

An awards’ ceremony will be held on Saturday 14th May at Haileybury School.

Book Design Competition

Well done to our Year 3 pupils Eddie Darley, Charlie Greeves and Tilly Mann, all of whom were winners of the Book Design Competition held to celebrate World Book Day.

The children had to design an original front cover for their favourite book and write a description for the back and were awarded the prize of a Book Token each.

ALL entries will be displayed in the library.

Mr Rory Clements’ 3rd Book Launch

We would like to invite pupils, parents and staff to come along and join us at the Holt Bookshop (in Holt),  at 6.30pm on Friday 13th May to celebrate the launch of parent Mr Rory Clements’ book PRINCE: the third book in the award-winning John Shakespeare series.

Drinks, nibbles, book signings and a short talk. Children welcome (George and Madeleine will be there).

Spelling Bee Winners

At the end of the Spring term, our pupils were buzzing with spelling madness in preparation for the new fiercely competitive House Spelling Bee Competition.

All pupils gained at least one house point for their house, culminating in them being able to achieve 15 house points in the final, if they won their year group’s competition.

The quarter-final, semi-final and final were nerve wracking elimination rounds, in which they had to spell the words out loud and in the case of the final: in front of the whole school! Read the rest of this entry »

OT Philip Pullman (Northern Lights) writes in!

Our Head of English, Miss Chapman, wrote to a number of authors back in the summer to see if they could send a signed photograph for a display in our library.

Miss Chapman was delighted when she received a signed book and postcard from Philip Pullman, a renown children’s author. Philip has written Northern Lights and many other successful and popular books.

His letter revealed that he actually attended Taverham Hall School in 1955 and has  happy memories of his time here:

Staff and pupils were seen reading, all over the school for a period of 20 minutes – have a look at some of the photos below:
