Taverham Hall Carol Service

Please keep your diaries free for our Taverham Hall Carol Service which will take place on Tuesday 13th December @ 19:00 hours  in the school’s Sports Hall.

The Carol Service is always a highlight of the year and we do hope as many pupils and parents will attend as possible. In recent years the carol services have been organized separately between the Junior and Senior pupils. This year a huge amount of effort has been invested in making this event a ‘whole school’ celebration.

All members of the school are very welcome to attend what is planned to be a great celebration of Christmas through readings and music.

The singing will be led by the school’s Chapel Choir and Reverend Seabrook will lead the worship. Readings will be presented by members of the school.

This year the order of service is based on the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols and readings are taken from The King James’ Bible which celebrates its 400th anniversary this year.

Refreshments will be served afterwards.

Expansion of Chapel Choir – Calling Singers!

Our Director of Music, William Drew-Batty is planning to introduce Alto, Tenor and Bass parts to the existing Chapel Choir for special events.

This new move will greatly extend the repertoire of the choir and our choristers will benefit from singing with adults. We have many parents who have experience of singing in a choir, even if they are a bit rusty! We also have ex pupils of the school who have continued singing at their senior school.

It is hoped that the ‘full’ choir would sing at events such as the Christmas Carol Service, and a local concert in the Spring or Summer terms.

The level of commitment would require singers to meet for a number of rehearsals before each event at a convenient time during the school term. The idea is to rehearse the adult choir separately with perhaps one or two rehearsals with the full choir.

If you are interested please contact William Drew-Batty at the school, headofmusic@taverhamhall.co.uk for a chat.

The choir goes from strength to strength and the choristers are making an excellent sound. Don’t miss this great opportunity to contribute to the rich musical life of Taverham Hall!

We look forward to hearing from you.

Senior Chapel Choir Auditions

Auditions to become a member of Senior Chapel Choir will take place this term. Any pupil in Years 6, 7 and 8 can apply. Auditions will be held during week beginning Monday 23 May. Interested pupils should speak with our Head of Music, Mr Drew-Batty, to arrange an audition date and time.

It is important to be aware that regular and punctual attendance is required and that choristers are expected to lead the singing in assembly and to take part in any musical events that are planned by the school.

Recent events have included school concerts, Norfolk County Music Festival, Barnardo’s National Youth Choir Festival, trips to West End shows and much more. In addition pupils gain excellent performance skills, develop aural awareness and are encouraged to work at a high level. Exciting things are planned for next year.

The choir presently rehearses twice a week, one lunchtime and Thursday mornings before assembly. There are also extra rehearsals for special events.

Auditions will include the following;

  • Pupils should prepare a song of their choice to sing
  • Simple aural tests will be given, including tapping a rhythm and singing back a simple melody after it has been played twice.
  • Simple sight singing
  • A discussion about the pupil’s musical interests

Parents are welcome to contact Mr Drew-Batty if they would like more information.
