IDEAS FOR NURSERY AND RECEPTION CHILDREN

This time of year is fantastic for getting outdoors and growing seeds whether you have a vegetable plot or simply a few patio tubs.

Being involved in planting and growing will help the children in many different ways with their counting, learning about where their food comes from, physical development with digging and planting to care for the seeds, being creative by creating bird deterrents and watering them regularly.

One interesting way of seeing how our seeds grow is to:

Line the inside of a jar with kitchen roll.

Fill the inside with sand or soil.

Push any seed (thought beans are more dramatic) between the kitchen roll and jar.

Water.

Watch the roots grow and emerge out of the seed.

OR using an onion seed, fill up a jar with water then carefully put the onion to sit on top of the water and watch the roots grow.
