Curriculum – Nursery

curnur01At Taverham Hall Nursery we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, which gives a sound basis for our children to flourish in an environment filled with fun and learning:

A UNIQUE CHILD

Every child has the right to learn in a place where they feel safe, gain confidence and their emotional and physical well-being are a priority. At Taverham Hall Nursery, we plan a series of activities that allow for interaction, communication and education.

Our children are safe, but sessions in Forest School, for example, allow them to take managed risks and learn certain boundaries for themselves. Child initiated learning is a very important part of what we do, and gives our small people the ability to choose and make decisions with their peers.

A healthy cooked lunch is provided each day – health awareness is promoted.

POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS

curnur02Our Nursery provides a setting where children are respected and learn to respect each other – constructive interaction with their peers and adults in the classroom is taught as part of every day. Children understand that we are all different, but effective communication and friendships are actively encouraged.

Our highly qualified staff has a wealth of experience in teaching effectively and promoting a very positive, stimulating curriculum.

We listen to children and assist them in becoming happy, settled and confident individuals.

ENABLING ENVIRONMENTS

curnur03Each child has their own assessment document that builds a picture of achievement. Constant monitoring and observation ensures that we give each child the individual education that allows them to reach their full potential.

The environment that we have created at Taverham Hall Nursery gives an amazing scope for learning:

  1. A purpose built up-to-date building that has all that a small child needs to access all areas of the curriculum.
  2. A school hall for drama, P.E., music and large apparatus sessions.
  3. A sports hall for mini-hockey, tennis, skittles, ball games and many other forms of equipment.
  4. Different areas of woodland for Forest School activities, pond-dipping, nature studies and exploration.

All of this is presented within an environment of emotional security and happiness where every child is valued and cared for.

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

for05We believe that children learn more effectively if they are given the strategies to do so. If they understand how they can make decisions and investigate for themselves, they will become more interested, more capable and keen to learn. We build upon experience and start from familiar points with each child. We connect the learning to their individual world and involve parents and families closely with their education.

The six areas of learning are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development

Each of these areas has a number of Early Learning Goals that are achieved during the years in Nursery.

Within these guidelines a multitude of activities are planned by the staff or initiated by the children. By the end of the year, each child will be ready to make the transition from Nursery to Reception, having achieved and usually surpassed expectations with in the Early Learning Goals that make up the framework.
