Year 1 poems to be published in Sense Poetry – East Anglia

On Tuesday Year 1 received some very exciting news. At school earlier in the year, the children had entered the Young Writers’ Sense Poetry competition and 21 children have had their entry chosen to appear in a special anthology called Sense Poetry – East Anglia, which is scheduled for publication on 31 August 2012.

The children had to write poems using their senses, to describe how they felt about a season of the year. Entries had been selected for publication based on perception, imagination, expression and creative use of language.

We are very proud of our children and are all eagerly awaiting publication!

Year 1 go back in time at Gressenhall Rural Life Museum

Year 1 children were very fortunate and enjoyed a warm, dry day when they visited Gressenhall Rural Life Museum as part of their topic work! First we visited a Victorian cottage and Elliott showed us what it was like to sit in a hip bath. Then we looked at a shop and the children were fascinated to see tins of Cadbury’s Cocoa for sale. Much enjoyment was had in the Victorian school room where there were notices saying “children should be seen and not heard”! Abbie acted the part of the teacher helper filling the inkwells and Benjamin played the piano to accompany the children.

We then walked down to the farm, where the children saw Suffolk Punch horses, piglets, goats and turkeys.

Then came the part that the children had all been looking forward to – the washing and the cooking. One group went into the farmhouse and made little cottage loaves, whilst the adults whipped cream to make butter. The children then sampled the bread and butter and pronounced it delicious! The other group were involved in a Victorian wash day, seeing the carbolic soap grated into the water, using the dolly and the washboard to clean the clothes and the highlight of the day – using the mangle to squeeze out the water!

The children finished with an energetic time on the very exciting adventure playground. Everyone had a wonderful time, Matilda summed it up saying

“I wish this day would never end, it’s the best ever.”

OT Golf Day – Sunday 10th June 2012

Join us for an enjoyable day of golf on Sunday 10th June at the Royal Norwich Golf Club. Parents, staff and OTs are all warmly invited to come along to this event which proved to be very popular last year. It starts at 14:15 hours and players may book individually or as groups of four.

There will be food provided for all players at the end of their round. A prize will be awarded for the nearest to the pin on the par 3 9th hole. The cost per player is £30, which can be paid on the day in the pro-shop.

Jubilee Celebration Day – 19th June 2012

Tuesday 19th June is the date set for our pupils to celebrate Taverham Hall’s 90 year history. The day will be marked by a collapse of the normal timetable in order for the children to mark this ocassion. Our current pupils and their families will be attending and we would love to welcome back our OTs also who are very much part of Taverham Hall’s diverse history.

An opportunity to visit the dorms and classrooms will also be possible and during the afternoon the Headmaster will be announcing the winner of Taverham Hall’s Art and Creative Writing Competition.

Speech Day – Friday 6th July

Speech Day will be held on Friday 6th July in the school’s Sports Hall. We are extremely honoured to welcome Martin Bell, OBE, UNICEF Ambassador and former pupil of Taverham Hall School as our guest speaker. Martin was a pupil at Taverham Hall from 1948-1952.

George C in Year 7 has been awarded a trophy by Holt RFC as the most impressive player amongst those playing Mini Rugby, which is a fine achievement – well done George!

Gemma wins more swimming medals!

Year 3 pupil, Gemma P, had a terrific haul at the recent UEA swimming mini-games, securing 1^st place in the 100m Individual Medley, 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly. She also took 2^nd place in the 50m Breaststroke and 3^rd in the 50m Freestyle. Well done Gemma!
