The new Tennis Academy Hobby undertaken by coaches from The Norfolk Health & Racquets Club on a Monday afternoon is extremely popular with boys and girls from Year 1 upwards taking part.
Taverham Hall School is one of the schools to fall under The Norfolk Health & Racquets Club Development Academy Programme. The structure of this programme enables players to progress from mini tennis to full ball and provides the opportunity for players to reach their full potential within the game.
Our 4-7 years old start with the:
An introduction to the FUNdementals of the game, using a sponge/mini red ball.
Practising the many footwork patterns in tennis, training speed, balance, agility.
Developing receiving skills, and understand of simple rules.
Very basic technique is taught with an emphasis on swinging low to high.
Playing on a badminton court.
For our 7-9 years old the focus is on:
Developing a broader knowledge of technique using a mini orange ball.
Contact point, height and distance away from the body.
Introduction to tactical understanding.
Increased focus on technique including serve.
Playing on a reduced sized court with lowered net.
Whilst our 10-13 years move on to:
Using a Tennis Ball.
Specific focus on styles of play.
Developing technique.
Playing on full sized court.
Understanding competitive aspect of game.
The coaches also offer lessons to our parents on a Tuesday morning which has been equally well received and should you wish to join please turn up at the school’s tennis courts where lessons take place from 0830 – 0930.
