The Summer Term has started

The Pre-Prep have been taking advantage of the lovely weather at the beginning of the term and all the children have been busy preparing and planting flower beds and tubs.  Pumpkins, gourds, cosmos, squash and cress have been planted ready for Harvest Festival in September.  Sunflowers will brighten the rear wall of the playground.

For their topic work, Reception have all brought their teddies in, however these are not their favourite teddies as they will be staying in school for a week!

The children have shown their bears and talked about them, and written and painted pictures of them.  There has been a lot of role-play as the children have had teddy bear picnics and parties.

As part of their science topic in Year 1, the children have put strawberry plants in tubs and are waiting for lettuce and beetroot seedlings to grow sufficiently to transfer to grow bags. They have also planted cress in eggshells ready to become ‘egg heads’.

Year 1 are also responsible for our new weather station and they take readings each day for the temperature, wind speed and amount of rainfall.

In their topic work the children are looking at directions and maps. This week they made direction finders and followed a trail of left and right directions in the school grounds.

Year 2 children, as part of their science work are looking at plants and creatures in their local environment.  This is one of the most popular topics and the children have already grown cress and are looking after the tadpoles that hatched from our frogspawn.

They are looking forward to getting out in the grounds looking for mini-beasts and setting up mini environments in the classroom.
