Geography

subj01At Taverham Hall School the children are encouraged in Geography to question what they see around them. An investigative approach to the study of aspects of life at local, national and global levels is seen as the key to engaging all pupils. The topics covered are varied, as is the manner in which these topics are taught. Cross curricular links are explored wherever possible most noticeably with Science, where the water cycle, birth rates, rainfall and environmental issues are covered.

Field work and visits are essential for studying Geography and visits to Pensthorpe Wildlife Park, Easton Farm, a local dairy and the river Wensum which runs through the school’s grounds, all give the pupils a fascinating insight into a range of industries and contrasting localities.

subj02Interactive whiteboards have enhanced the teaching of Geography at Taverham Hall significantly and a comprehensive set of digital resources allows pupils to explore and research particularly effectively.

Through an active exploration of their locality, the pupils begin to develop a real sense of identity in the younger years while environmental components are investigated through specific place study, in the upper years.
