Boys U11s report:
Following on from a great Colts A season the team finished off the season as always with the muchly anticipated Gresham’s hockey festival which includes both friendly and competitive hockey, including an indoor tournament. The Under 11s played a friendly round robin tournament on the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, they played some great hockey and picked up 5 wins from 5 scoring 17 goals and conceding just 1. Sunday afternoon the U11s started their first competitive competition as they competed in the outdoor cup, the boys started with two wins both 3-0 against RGS Newcastle and Bilton Grange, a 0-0 draw v Gresham’s followed before a further two 2-0 wins against Beeston and Edgeborough sealed first place. With all the outdoor hockey finished, the U11s finished the festival on the Monday with an indoor tournament, the boys played some lovely hockey and won 3 games and drew 2, only conceding one shot all tournament picking up 1st place in the process. The boys played some fantastic hockey all weekend picking up two gold medals in the process. A special mention to James M who picked up U11 player of the tournament and good representation of what he has achieved as colts A captain this season. Congratulations to all the boys this season, they have improved a great deal and they have been a pleasure to coach all season.

Our U13 girls had a superb time at the annual Gresham’s Hockey festival this year; they played some excellent hockey in the glorious sunshine and were a pleasure to coach. They started the event on Saturday with indoor games against New Hall, with a win for the B’s, and a draw and loss for the A’s against Wellingborough. The girls then had 2 good wins outdoors against NHS and Monkton where everyone played their part. After a good night sleep it was a full day of hockey on the Sunday with 9 matches indoor and out, the most notable being a draw with a very strong Perse side and a 7-0 win against New Hall. We reached the quarter finals of the indoor event, losing out to the Perse School, but showed just how far our indoor game had come over the weekend, with Mr Martin’s encouragement to ‘drive right’! The girls couldn’t resist showing their moves at the disco on the Sunday evening and were then up bright and early for the final event on Monday. Some tired girls played very well to finish with 2 wins and a draw. Thank you to Gresham’s for hosting such a fantastic hockey festival that the girls will remember for a long time.

Boys U13 Report:
The Under 13 boys saved their best hockey of the season for the Gresham’s hockey festival. The boys started well plying outdoor friendlies against Edgeborough which they won 2-0, they then drew 0-0 with Magdalen College School before going on to beat Monkton Combe 2-1. The boys played well in indoors against The Perse, late in the afternoon.
The clocks moved forward overnight, and we were playing indoors at 8:50 am! But the boys played well against both Magdalen College and Nottingham to ensure that both our A and B team were qualifying for the quarter finals, which the B team controversially lost having had a goal ‘disallowed’ before the opposition then scored with 10 seconds left! The A team were just as unlucky, having dominated the game we couldn’t score and then unfortunately we lost on penalty flicks.
We then played The Perse outdoors, our next game against KES and New Hall, where we again moved the ball playing some eye catching hockey.
Monday morning saw the outdoor competition start and we won our group, beating Town Close, New Hall and KES all 1-0 before playing Monkton Combe in the semi final, which we were winning thanks to a WONDER goal from Elliott, which was so good the umpire didn’t even see it! But Monkton then equalised just before the end and the game then went to penalty strokes, which we again just lost on.
The boys played some excellent hockey throughout the weekend and and were a real credit to the school both on and off the pitch, so I must thank them for all their efforts throughout the term and to the marvellous band of supporters who have travelled near and far to support the team this term. The weather was fantastic, helping to make the festival a brilliant success and we must thank Gresham’s for a brilliantly run festival and we look forward to return again next year.
