Hobbies & clubs

At Taverham Hall School, we offer children plenty of opportunity to develop interests and talents outside the classroom. Our exceptional and extensive grounds provide the perfect space for many hobbies and clubs.

Traditional games of cricket, rugby, rounders, netball, hockey, athletics, tennis and swimming are included as part of the P.E. and games programme. We also offer something different in the after-school clubs.

Preparatory School hobbies and clubs

Keen anglers will enjoy Taverham Hall’s fishing rights on the River Wensum, which runs through our grounds. From year 3 onwards children can take up canoeing on the river as a hobby during the summer term. For those interested in bird-watching, the grounds also offer excellent cover. Some children enjoy helping out with the pupils’ gardens and school animals, learning about management and preservation. Others prefer den making and, with careful supervision, climbing trees or testing their mettle on the ropes course and zip-wire.

hob06Table tennis and table football are always available, as are the books in our school library. Ample space also exists in the grounds for budding golfers to practise shots and the Wensum Valley golf course is situated just outside the school grounds.

Sports teams often take part in local, reginal and national competitions – and many pupils represent their county. We have even produced a national downhill ski champion and national free flight champion!

Both boarders and day-pupils are encouraged to join at least one hobby group or club, with many children choosing several. A full programme is offered throughout the year. Hobbies and clubs vary from season to season. View list of current hobbies/clubs.

Crafts, cooking and outdoor games including mini – rugby are also popular all year round.

As the name suggests, the Teatime Club includes a light well-balanced tea. Nutritious sandwiches, on white or brown bread, are served with a choice of fillings. Fruit is also on offer, together with a choice of milk, squash or water.
