Cendrine Brio: a French play by the European Theatre Company - 17th April 2008

Children in Years 3 to 6 were joined by 40 pupils and 4 teachers from Taverham Junior School in being treated to a very stimulating performance of their latest play by the European Theatre Company.  "Cendrine Bio” tackles the important and topical issue of recycling as part of our effort to protect the environment.

Darcy van Eerten and Freddie Briscoe in Year 6 share their impressions of the play:

Recyclable shoes?  Well, we’ve heard of everything now!

Based on the story of Cinderella, Cendrine Bio is a modernised French play (all in French!) promoting recycling.

Cendrine (Cinderella) slaved away for her sisters Charlotte and Colombe (ugly sisters) for a long time but she had a “grand secret”: a shoe made completely from recyclable materials.  Umm, comfy!

Cendrine’s dream was to sell her design as a shoe for all to buy.

As the play proceeds, Cendrine, Charlotte and Colombe end up together at the disco with Robert, the son of the shoe factory owners (shame they couldn't dance!).  But Cendrine must return her hired dress by midnight.

As she hurries to the exit, she loses her “grand secret”, and Robert finds it.  At the end, her lost shoe design becomes reunited with her and her dreams (dreams of having the shoe made, and dreams of Robert) become reality.

Altogether it was a great afternoon.  Au revoir!

Un kilomètre à pied,

Ca use, ça use,

Un kilomètre à pied,

Ca use les souliers!
