Today Nursery and Pre-Prep parents were treated to a dance display by their children; a culmination of the children’s work over the past term. In the Nursery games songs and stories are used to engage the children in expressive movement and in the show our youngest children travelled to the jungle by train and then moved in the manner of some of the animals they might encounter there.

The Reception children then demonstrated their ability to move to music in a more abstract way, responding to the tempo and mood of the music in their actions, including marching, robotics and musical box music.

In Year One the children used ribbons to create patterns and direction whilst responding to the piece ‘Oxygen’. Their ability to follow the direction of the music and their good use of space in a complicated routine was clear for all to see. In their performance of ‘Stretch ‘n’ Curl Jazz’ one of the Year Two groups showed their extending ability to work together on a movement piece and also to follow a more complex sequence of movements.

In ‘Beat in Time’, the second group of Year Two children created a most effective movement piece based around simple and complex rhythms, which required them to work as a group and individually, carefully counting the beat in their heads. The show was great to watch, fun to perform and effectively demonstrated the tremendous progression in dancing and movement skills over the year groups.
