Pre-Prep Science Week - Wednesday - Investigation Day

Activity One: Investigating Magnets.

Children all made a magnetic race game, sorted materials, made magnetic patterns and used the interactive whiteboard for a magnetic sorting game. During the day the children had a great deal of fun whilst learning lots too!

“My last activity was playing with magnets and all of it was fun. We made a magnetic game.”  Madeleine Clements Yr2L

“In the Year 2 Classroom we were learning about magnets and you could make a race track and something to race on you track. We had a stick with a magnet on it. It was great fun!”  Stephen Mace Yr2L

Activity Two: Investigating Structures
In this ‘straw and tape challenge’ the children were asked to design and make a tower one metre tall, which could stand upright and which was strong enough to hold a marble on the top! This proved to be quite a task, requiring a good deal of thinking, but the children rose to the challenge and some fabulous structures were created! Some children also made superb towers using a selection of construction toys provided. Lots of fun was had by everyone.

Activity Three: Making Hot Cross Buns

All the children in the Pre-Prep experienced the delight of making hot cross buns during this multi-activity day. The children had great fun mixing, kneading and rolling the dough, deciding whether to make two small buns to share with their family or just one big one to eat themselves! Once they were made the children had to be patient whilst the hot cross buns were left in a warm place to rise, before the buns were cooked. They all took their hot cross buns home and the general feedback the next day was not had they smelt delicious, they tasted great too!
