The bear necessities of life at school picnic - 15th June 2008

There certainly were big surprises in store at the school this Sunday when we opened our magnificent grounds to the public to hold a Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

Bearemy Bear, a giant sized bear from Build-A-Bear Workshop was an extremely popular attraction with the children.  Unfortunately, he did have to visit the on-site Teddy Bear Hospital run by Taverham Vets due to a very poorly leg.  With qualified staff on hand they were soon able to diagnose his problem.  After applying a bandage Bearemy felt much better and was soon back on the move!  Many smaller teddies had to visit the hospital throughout the day for a variety of reasons.  There must have been a Teddidemic!

Included in the day were a wide range of free craft activities organised by the school, including others structured by “Gymboree Art Classes, Merry-Go-Round and Phoenix Cards”.  These kept the children amused for ages.  With so much choice, they had difficulty in choosing which to do first.

“Jo Jingles” entertained the children with their lively music and movement sessions whilst “The Nelson Pub Restaurant” hosted a Big Cook-Little Cook activity.  “Jump for Joy” were popular with their soft play area for the little ones, and the children were able to play to their hearts content.

Face painting by “Krazy Faces” was in great demand and they produced some wonderful transformations.

Many teddies entered The Best Dressed Bear competition.  It was a difficult choice but there was one worthy winner.  However, due to the smartness of all the competing bears coupled with the tremendous effort made by the children, “Mad About Coffee” awarded runner up awards to three more teddy bears and their owners.

Stallholders “Usborne Books, Steven Key Photographer, Phoenix Cards, The Gift & Food Parcel Company and Geoff’s Personal Key rings” were an added attraction to this event.

Refreshments were on hand by “Mad About Coffee, Mick’s Mobile Munchies and Ronaldo Ice-Creams”.

Taverham Hall School wishes to thank all the children, their teddies (of course!) and families, the activity providers and the stallholders for making this such a fabulous fun-packed day.  Our gratitude also to the St. John Ambulance crew, who were on hand with us throughout the day to cover any medical emergencies.
