Match reports w/c 3 December

U13 Indoor Hockey Tournament

Our U13 annual hockey tournament was a fantastic afternoon of fast-paced hockey. All teams improved throughout the event and goalkeepers and strikers alike wowed us with some fantastic goal-mouth action.
Our girls started strongly against Norwich School but despite dominating play and winning several short corners, we could not find the goal and the game ended 0-0.
Next we faced a very strong Town Close side and although we battled hard, they had an excellent short-corner routine and scored 2 break-away goals to leave us 0-4 down. We picked ourselves back up for our next match against Beeston Hall and this was an end-to-end game with chances for both teams. Tuesday made a couple of great saves and Ruby and Milly stood firm at the back, but that goal still eluded us and it finished 0-0.
We showed real character in our game against Gresham’s who scored early on. Emily once again marked a very strong opponent superbly and every player fought for the ball. Gracie used her pace well and Issy eventually scored our first goal, coolly slotting the ball past the keeper to finish 1-1. Sadly, Ruby had sustained a knock to her finger and was out of action for the remainder of the games but her team mates Alex and Milly stepped up. Lily-Ella and Edith worked hard as we dominated against NHSG, but again we could not find the back of the net… We were great at direct shots at the keeper but using post players and shooting into the corners would have seen us score more goals.
Our final match was against Wisbech and it was a similar story of excellent hockey and commitment from the whole team but no goals were scored. The girls should be very proud of their performances, finishing joint 4th. Well done to the winners Town Close, and runners up Gresham’s.
Thank you to Mr Martin for umpiring, Mr Ling for scoring, our catering team for wonderful refreshments and to the parents for their support from the balcony!

U11A v Beeston Score 3-2

LPS@TH had push back but weren’t switched on and lost possession early on, going 1-0 down. The girls reacted quickly to this scoring on their first attack shortly after they conceded. The result was 1-1 at half time.
After a quick half-time talk, the girls went back out fighting. Evie, Grace and Millie all used their silky stick skills to create more goal-scoring opportunities and with that came a lovely well-worked team goal. They kept possession and passed the ball around well. Rachel made some lovely runs down the wing, again creating chances and had a couple of shots on goal herself, just going wide. Grace made a cracking run (dribbling around half their team) into the D and scored a great goal. Beeston didn’t give up and put pressure on our defence, Lois and Beau, but they both worked hard together to keep Beeston out. Issy also made some awesome saves through out the game.
There were goals from Evie, Millie and Grace. A great performance from everyone. Well done, girls!

U11B v Beeston Score 2-2
Our U11 girls went off to Beeston and soldiered through in the rain and cold. The B team had an evenly matched opposition. Sophie got very close to scoring in the first few minutes, just missing by inches. Beeston had the pressure on from the start, they won a short corner and scored from it. We ended the first half 1-0 down.
After a quick half-time talk, we came back into the second half wanting to score and starting to play with more energy. Beeston caught us on the back foot again and despite a few great saves from Grace, they sneaked one past her to take a 2-0 lead.
We came back from the goal with our heads held high. Sophie did a lovely cross pass into the circle to Millie who slapped the ball into the goal.
Our spirits were high and our hockey began to improve and we worked together as a unit. This lead to another great set up from Susannah which Beau finished off nicely into the goal. It was 2-2 and the whistle went! A great come back from our girls and a fair result in an evenly matched game.

U11C v Beeston Hall  Score 0-0

The girls travelled away to Beeston. They started very well making great tackles all over the pitch. Olivia and Evie showed some great defending in the D in the first half. Grace, Freya and Liella worked to get the ball up the pitch to Rachel and Emily to try and get a shot on target. A well-worked play led to Emily having a shot and narrowly missing, taking the girls into half time still at 0-0.
In the second half Beeston gained in confidence and managed to earn several short corners. Rachel was very speedy getting out to the top of the D and some great saves from Zinhle meant that Beeston were unable to take advantage of all their short corners. The final result was 0-0 in a good game of hockey and a great way to finish the sentence. Player of the match as voted by the Beeston girls was Rachel S.

Team: Zinhle N, Grace S, Rachel S, Evie G, Emily B, Freya S, Olivia G, Liella F
