Our approach to teaching Mathematics is based on a bias towards child-centred education. We believe that every child is different and needs to be taught and stimulated in a different way.
From the Pre-Prep right through to the Year 8 Scholarship Programme every effort is made to help the children realise that mathematics can be a lot of fun. A young mathematician who has enjoyed and been inspired by a particular lesson is far more likely to remember what they have been taught.
Mathematics is taught in a way that demonstrates it to be supremely relevant to the children, helping them to understand the sciences, master sport, conceptualise geography and appreciate music.
From Year 5 onwards the children are taught by a specialised mathematics teachers in sets suited to their level of ability and their confidence. They are encouraged to make full use of an extensive range of some of the most exciting resources that are available for children.
Although the Common Entrance syllabus remains at the centre of our teaching the children are continuously encouraged and challenged to look deeper and ask the tough questions.
