Five outstanding inspections have taken place at our Taverham Hall site over the past 7 years. The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) Team, who visited the School in November 2016 for an Educational Quality inspection, reported on the quality of the School’s work.

The inspection focused on the following two key outcomes which both received the highest accolade of ‘Excellent’:

The quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements, and

The quality of the pupils’ personal development.

In June 2014 the School’s Nursery Department was rated ‘outstanding’ in ALL areas by the ISI team who inspected the Early Years Foundation Stage provision:

  • How well the early years provision meets the needs of the range of children who attend.
  • The contribution of the early years provision to children’s well being.
  • The leadership and management of the early years provision.
  • The overall quality of the early years provision.

“The EYFS has continued to provide the high standards reported in the previous inspection.”

(Previously, the school was visited by Ofsted in January 2010 and the ISI team in November 2010 who both found the quality and provision in the EYFS to be outstandingthen). Please see below for a link to full details of  our inspection reports.

Langley Preparatory School at Taverham Hall’s Nursery is a happy full-time pre-school for 2 to 4 year olds . It’s action packed and full of challenging, stimulating and fun activities, to satisfy the most inquisitive of minds.

As part of the School, the nursery programme is structured around the ability, personality and interests of each child. At our Taverham Nursery, everyone gets lots of individual attention.

We believe that children learn more effectively if they are given strategies to do so. If they understand how they can make decisions and investigate for themselves, they will become more interested, more capable and keen to learn. We build upon experience and start from familiar points with each child. We connect the learning to their individual world and involve parents and families closely with their education.

Every activity is designed to build confidence, stretch imaginations and guide children gently into the wonderful world of learning.

By the time our nursery children enter our Pre-Prep department they are confident learners who are ready to take on new challenges with energy and enthusiasm.

In the Nursery classes each child is allocated a key person. Children thrive from a base of loving and secure relationships. This is normally provided by a child’s parents but it can also be provided by a key person. A key person is a named member of staff with responsibilities for a small group of children who helps those children in the group feel safe and cared for. The role is an important one and an approach set out in the EYFS which is working successfully in settings and in Reception classes.

This role involves the key person in responding sensitively to children’s feelings and behaviours and meeting emotional needs by giving reassurance, such as when they are new to a setting or class, and supporting the child’s well-being. The key person supports physical needs too, helping with issues like nappy changing, toileting and dressing. That person is a familiar figure who is accessible and available as a point of contact for parents and one who builds relationships with the child and parents or carers.

Records of development and care are created and shared by the key person, parents and the child.

Langley Preparatory School at Taverham Hall’s purpose-built Nursery rooms provide a child-friendly environment, specific to Early Learning needs. Situated within the extensive grounds of Taverham Hall, children enjoy year-round access to the sports hall and Pre-Prep Hall. The Nursery has their own secure outside area where they can explore, listen to stories on the giant’s chair, tend to their vegetable garden, play in the Wendy house or try to conquer their climbing wall!

Under careful supervision, all Nursery children have the opportunity to take part in our Forest School programme. Activities are planned to support the child’s self esteem and confidence and encourage team building skills through a variety of interesting activities all year round, such as whittling, bug hunting, walks around the grounds, den building and much, much more!

The proximity of the Nursery facilities to the Pre-Prep and Prep schools makes the transition into the next stage easy. With nursery children joining older pupils in the main school hall for a cooked lunch everyday, all children benefit from interacting with other age groups. Meals are prepared and cooked in school by our own catering team, so every meal is guaranteed to be nutritionally balanced and delicious.

Our full-time Nursery is open from 08:20 – 15:30 but also offers the option of an extended day for your child until 18:00 hours as well as an Early Bird Club option which starts at 08:00. This extended day provides the perfect opportunity to try something new and offers working parents the convenience of a later pick up time. A light snack and a drink are provided if your child is staying till the end of the day.

Government inspections and regular lesson observations ensure high standards are always maintained and result in consistent praise for the Early Years teaching at Langley Preparatory School at Taverham Hall. View our inspection reports.
