The British Cartographic Society (BCS) visited us to give a cartography workshop on creating a earthquake rescue plan map for the 2011 Japan Earthquake. The pupils were split into groups to produce their own maps based on the geographical information provided to them. From this, with the help of some Year 8s, they were able to create a map with the purpose of planning the relief effort after the earthquake had struck.
An additional bonus of this workshop included the best map being sent off to be judged in a national competition held by the BCS. This year’s winning group comprised of Archie C, Tashinga M, Emily M, Emily B, Evie W and Tabitha A. Well done team!
